Bella is pretty simple- it means "beautiful".
The more complicated part is Arda. A bit of background first- all of our children have and will have middle names relating to the realm of JRR Tolkien (The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, etc). Because of this we thought the underlying theme of their names would make for a good carry over to the name of our school. Arda was the obvious choice for us. Arda in Tolkien's realm is the world. Of course being from Tolkien there is a whole story behind it which is provided in the link if anyone is curious.
Surprisingly it took us quite a while to come up with this though now it seems like a no-brainer.

Welcome To Our Schoolhouse!
Finally! The name has been decided on, the blog created and the organization of the learning can get underway!
A little about us- We are a LDS family of soon to be 7 (mama is pregnant with twins due in August 2009). We live in Southern California and decided to homeschool because we are both disappointed with the education offered in public schools nowadays and the process used to educate our children. Along with that we feel it is very important that our children while they are children are close to home and 6 hours a day 5 days a week just takes them too far. When they are older they can decide for themselves if they'd like to continue homeschooling or if they'd rather try out public school.
Our schooling style is ever evolving and probably always will be. We are very drawn to classical education and Charlotte Mason. We love living books and hands-on nature study and feel art in all it's forms is essential to a child's expression. We do not do a religious based curriculum though we do teach and live by our faith. We also will not censor our science education.
This blog is meant to keep me (Mom) organized and also to have a record of our happenings but in making it public I hope that someone somewhere might find something useful from our experiences and growing list of resources. And please feel free to comment and share with us any pointers or resources you might have!
Blessings,
Maggie
